Holiday Hope for Hounds Year End Letter 2012

Amy Reynard

President, Greyhound Friends of North Carolina, Inc.

It’s that time again! Time to stop and say thank you to our Greyhound Friends and count our many blessings! This year we have placed over 121 Greys in their new forever homes this year. This accomplishment wouldn’t be possible without the time and energy given by so many – staff, volunteers and donors – who help support our kennel guests and spread the word about this incredible breed.

As we close 2012, we are grateful to many who helped us complete the projects to improve our kennel, including the installation of a new retaining wall, new roof over the storage area, a new water heater, flooring and paint in the office just to name a few. All this was possible because of generous donors and volunteers! Morever, the success of events such as our Open House, Mountain Hounds, Spa Days, Meet n’ Greets, and Santa Photos continue to amaze us year after year. Through these fundraising events and our yearly membership drive, we can ensure our kennel expenses are covered. We have weathered some very tough years and are grateful every day to each and every one of our supporters!!!

We at GFNC are preparing to mark our 20th year in 2013 - this is a milestone worth celebrating!   For many years we have hoped to renovate the kennels where our Greys spend much of their time. I’m proud to report that in 2013 we will accomplish this major renovation to our kennel. With the help of a generous anonymous donation, we’ve already raised over half the funds needed to complete the project! Words can’t express the gratitude we have - we are truly honored. In order to renovate the kennel space we’ll need to raise another $10,000. If you are interested in donating towards the 2013 kennel renovations, please mark your check or donation form as “2013 kennel renovation”. Our donor will also match the funds we raise. This is an exciting way to mark our 20th year and we are truly blessed to be able to accomplish this goal.

As we come to the end of another year together, I can’t say enough about the supporters, volunteers and staff who keep our kennel running smoothly, who find homes for our Greys, and who educate the public about these special companions. We could not do what we do, and would not be celebrating 20 years, without each of you, our Greyhound Friends. Every dollar and every hour you give helps us keep kennel expenses paid and keep our dogs safe, fed and cared for, and we thank you for your generous support over the years.

Happy Holidays and a joyous New Year from Greyhound Friends of North Carolina!
