2015 Holiday Hope for Hounds Year End Letter

Amy Reynard

President, Greyhound Friends of North Carolina, Inc.

2015:  Celebrating our Success!

Happy Holidays to you, our Greyhound Friends!  2015 was a good year and we are blessed to have wonderful volunteers, staff, board members, and supporters across the state and across the country.  Our team once again found homes for over 100 Greyhounds this year.  Throughout this and every year, staff and volunteers are the lifeblood of our group - they are always working to keep the kennel running smoothly.   Together, we proudly look back on over 22 years of Greyhound adoption, with more than 5,400 Greyhounds placed in homes thanks to the efforts of dedicated team members.  Did you know GFNC volunteers logged over 3,000 hours this year at the kennel caring for our guests?  To join us, check out the Volunteer Opportunities web page.

Keeping a non-profit adoption group running for 22 years is an accomplishment of which to be proud.  Without your support we could not have accomplished such success!  Like most non-profit groups, our operating budget includes rent, electricity, staff salary, workers compensation insurance, veterinary expenses, and much more.  We can’t say THANK YOU enough to our generous donors.  You are the reason Greyhound Friends of North Carolina can continue finding homes for retired Greyhounds.

Gazebo BricksI’m pleased to report we signed a new 10 year lease for our kennel space in 2015, securing our future in our current location with no increase in our monthly rent expense.  Thanks to some generous donors, we replaced the kennel office flooring this year, and we moved our beautiful memorial bricks to a new display area around our gazebo.  These projects were completed with donated time and supplies with no impact to our operating expenses.

Earlier this year we gathered feedback from our membership regarding how to improve our web presence.  Your suggestions helped us develop the framework for a new website and we will soon share details regarding its launch.  As you can imagine, this is a challenging project, possible only because of a great deal of time and energy given by our dedicated volunteers.  Once again, this project has not increased our expenses.

winner Oct 2015Our successful fundraising efforts this year, including our Open House, Mountain Hounds, internet auction, Howl-o-ween Drop-In, Christmas Drop-In, membership drive, and Santa photos represent the hard work of our dedicated volunteers.  Volunteers are always needed to help with these events.  Please contact us if you’d like to help.

Our partnership with Triangle Greyhound Society includes a very successful foster program in the Research Triangle area and a strong Greyhound network.  We’re so grateful to all the groups across the country who help us by volunteering time, transporting or fostering dogs, donating items & food, providing grants, and donating funds.

Thank you
GFNC can’t thank you, our Greyhound Friends, enough for your support.  If not for you, we would not be able to continue to house and find homes for retired racing Greyhounds.

As we close out another year, please consider making a tax-deductible donation towards our efforts.   It takes energy, time and money to run a group like ours and we are thankful to have such a dedicated support network.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Greyhound Friends of North Carolina!  May 2016 bring happiness and health for you, your family, and your Greyhounds.

 With warmest regards,

Amy Reynard, President GFNC
